The Darrington Academy blog is contributed by parents, former students, staff, and the faculty at Darrington Academy. The blogs you will read are about both positive and negative experiences, as the bloggers here are true-to-life; and can help pass on life tips, personal trials, and the difficulties of the parent-child journey to other parents. This is what we strive for here at Darrington Academy: the difficult journey that leads to a positive life experience. It’s not always easy, nor will we ever claim it to be. But the rewards speak for themselves.
About Darrington Academy
Darrington Academy is an accredited boarding school located in the lush mountains of Blue Ridge, Georgia. We offer a knowledge- and value- based learning environment for our students in order to help shape them into responsible citizens of the future; and to reach each student’s individual scholastic potential. We help teach the children that their past does not define them, only their dreams and ambitions do!
The climate at Darrington is perfect: we experience all four seasons, and we do so without apology! We have summer fun (our Fourth of July fireworks are the talk of the town, and upper levels get to go boating and camping), winter snow, pumpkin carving in the fall (we carved the two biggest ones in the whole state last year), and we plant vegetable gardens and flowers in the spring. Our wonderful cooks use the vegetables that the children plant, grow, and harvest, and have a few special “veggie only” meals prepared at the end of summer from our very own garden! They are a big hit with the kids!
At Darrington Academy, students improve not only mentally and physically, but also learn how to sustain relationships! During your child’s stay at Darrington, we help them understand the importance of family, the workings of the family unit, and most importantly their responsibilities as a member.
Our curriculum lays emphasis on the academic, intellectual, and emotional growth of your child. Our trained, qualified, and exceptional faculty assists each student in the learning process. Each child progresses at his own rate. Student’s are able to progress at their own rates and because of the extended school hours students may complete twice as many credits per year while in attendance. It all depends on your child and his willingness to work.
Don’t be surprised if you come to tour Darrington Academy and spy a dog in the classroom! At Darrington Academy, Miss Helen, our Biology and upper math teacher, trains dogs for Paws for Cause. Paws for Cause trains assist dogs for handicapped people, and she also trains dogs as ‘therapy dogs’ that help with emotionally and mentally challenged people. At Darrington, the kids get to help with the training! The kids love working with these fine animals!
The enrollment process at Darrington Academy is simple and open throughout the year. Upon meeting the enrollment requirements, the process can actually be completed within 24 hours. Once you are enrolled with us, our admissions representative will assist you through the different options of getting your child to the school.

Benefits of Learning at Darrington Academy
We have multiple learning resources for students: As a part of our curriculum, we organize “self-esteem” seminars and workshops for BOTH parents and students, which help strengthen their bond as a family unit. In order to make the student aware of his duties and responsibilities, we encourage our students to participate in volunteer work. We assist each individual student to develop their personality and talents and we organize various competitions and character development courses. After a hard day’s work, our students have the opportunity to relax with friends, explore the world of books through our well equipped library, or even relax and chat in the cafeteria. They can also enjoy their weekends by participating in organized games, hiking, fishing, camping, and trips to the nearby mountains once they reach the appropriate level in our program.
Talented Faculty and Staff: We have a well trained, highly qualified, talented, and experienced teaching staff. Many of our teachers are retired after over 20 years’ of experience and “just “couldn’t stay away” from the profession. Some of them hold PhDs. Most of them had prior experience working with troubled teenagers. Thus, our faculty has a special bonding, patience, and sense of humor with the students; as they are well aware of the emotional difficulties of being away from their family units. We also have family representatives for each student. The family representative acts as a liaison between the student and parent, and sends weekly progress reports to the parents, has weekly phone calls, and informs parents about their student’s progress, whether good or bad.
High Quality Infrastructure of Darrington Academy : Our well-constructed academy, neat and beautiful campus, open spaces, large playgrounds, dormitories, friendly and well-qualified faculty, and dedicated family representatives encourage students to excel! We have a new gym, volley-ball court, basketball courts, and other physical education facilities where students can explore the world of sports. Academically, we have a math team, student council, and we are involved with community services like reading to pre-school students at the local head start program. Other service opportunities for your child include community services such as setting-up and working charitable booths at local fund-raising festivals for underprivileged children; participating in the local anti-drug and anti-meth march; and our students have even gone to Mississippi twice to help with the clean-up and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
